Peatland Restoration & Habitats Talk

and

Heathland Vegetation Walk

with Cumbria Wildlife Trust

Sunday 25th June
10am
At The Old Courthouse.

Join Cumbria Wildlife Trust Peatland Restoration experts Mel Sugden & Sean Prokopiw for a talk on reversing the damage done to peatland areas and how they are working to improve the landscape for wildlife and the environment.

Join Sean & Mel as they give us a broad overview of what peatlands are, how they function, and where they are in the UK. We will be looking at the interesting variety of plants and animals that can be found within them and the unique adaptations they have to circumvent these traditionally nutrient-poor and even hostile environments. The team from Cumbria Wildlife Trust will tell us how they have been degraded through time and how they seek to restore them with some examples of works we have conducted in the area.

We will then go for a walk that will look at these points this with an emphasis on the unique species that can be seen on peatlands and we’ll look at some erosion features and indicators of peatland condition that we might consider when planning a restoration.

You are very welcome to just join us for the talk if you are not able to come on the walk.

The event will be held at:
